“Chasing Stone has been a favorite of mine since I first tried them. Not only do they add texture and style to my subject matter, they are easy to take with me wherever I go!”
“I found Chasing Stone when I was looking for a backdrop for my holiday mini sessions. In addition to something that would work for holiday sessions, I wanted something neutral and subtle enough to use throughout the year. I ordered the Hand Painted Photography Backdrop in Limestone, and it’s GORGEOUS! The quality is excellent, Jennifer was quick to answer my questions before I ordered, and shipping was fast, with my backdrop arriving in about two weeks. I will definitely purchase another canvas from her in the future.”
“Chasing Stone creates truly beautiful fine-art backdrops. The craftsmanship and hand-painted detail are stunning in person and translate effortlessly on camera. This backdrop has quickly become a staple piece in my studio, and my clients constantly rave about how beautiful it is during their sessions. It elevates the overall look and feel of my work in such a refined, timeless way. I’m so impressed with the quality and care that goes into each piece and very much look forward to purchasing my next backdrop.”
“Chasing Stone has the highest quality photo backdrops on the market and the customer service and care is genuine. We are happy to support another small artistic business and their backdrop has been game changing for documenting our floral work! They were accommodating, communicative and the product we received was beautiful and high quality. Can't wait to use it all summer long for our weddings. Can't recommend them more!”
Backdrops are available as 5' x 8', 8' x 10', and 8' x 14'. All sizing is approximate.
A 5' x 8' covers headshots, seated portraits, and most detail work, and it hangs from one stand. An 8' x 10' fits full-length portraits and a small group. An 8' x 14' is the studio wall: full length with room at the sides, or a wider group. The 8' x 10' and 8' x 14' each want two stands.
Each Chasing Stone backdrop is 100% hand painted in California on premium cotton canvas. The painted surface has depth and texture, and it absorbs light instead of shining the way vinyl does.
It is lightweight and rolls tight for travel. Muslin wrinkles, and paper tears and creases. Canvas is ironed from the backside if a light dent appears, and it is used again.
No, the backdrop stand would need to be purchased separately. For the floating backdrop setup seen in our product listings, we used a standard C-stand with the adapter found on our Accessories page. We recommend two stands and adapters for an 8' x 10' or 8' x 14' backdrop, and one stand and adapter for a 5' x 8' backdrop. Sand bags (30–50 lb) are a good idea to weigh down the C-stand when shooting outdoors.
Always store and transport your backdrop tightly rolled and taped to the cardboard core provided. Never crease or fold it.
Backdrops arrive individually taped to a cardboard core and shipped inside a reusable, telescopic tube for proper storage.
Dry debris and powder can be removed with a soft-bristled brush or sticky lint roller. Treat stains immediately. Footprints and other oil-based stains can be removed with a dry rag or sponge first, then finished with gentle use of a white art gum eraser. Most water-based stains can be removed by spot cleaning with a damp cloth.
Avoid excessive friction, heavy detergents, or saturating the backdrop. Light dents and creases can be minimized by ironing the backside on high heat without steam. Do not consume food that has been placed on backdrops as they are not food-safe.
Please allow 5–7 business days to create and process your order. Shipping time is in addition to processing time.
Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. federal holidays. Orders placed after 4:00 PM PT begin processing the following business day. Orders containing both flat lay mats and backdrops may ship separately.
Because items are made to order, returns are kindly declined. Exchanges are welcomed within 30 days of purchase if the item is unused, undamaged, and returned in its original condition with all packaging materials, which include the inner cardboard core, white retaining band, and branded packaging tube.
Customers are responsible for the return shipping costs on exchanged merchandise. Email info@chasingstone.com to initiate an exchange.
Each backdrop is cut and painted entirely by hand to order. No two are identical, and you should expect slight variations in color and texture from the pictured image.
Read the colorway on the product page, then choose the tone that sits behind your subject: a light neutral for bright rooms, a deeper tone when you want the figure to separate from the wall. Cover images are photographed on the 5' x 8'.
A rollable, hand painted canvas backdrop brings the same textured wall to every venue, hotel room, and getting-ready suite of the day. The 5' x 8' hangs from a single stand and covers bridal portraits, seated portraits, and detail work, which makes it the easiest size to carry through a full wedding.
It travels rolled on its core inside a telescopic tube, so it never creases between locations. The painted surface photographs with the depth of weathered stone, without the wrinkles of muslin or the shine of vinyl, and photographers including Jose Villa and Julie Livingston bring Chasing Stone surfaces into their wedding and editorial work.
For most arrangements, a 5' x 8' backdrop on one stand fills the frame behind a bouquet, a centerpiece, or a single installation piece, then rolls away when the shoot is finished. Larger installations and arches want the width of an 8' x 10' or 8' x 14', which hang from two stands.
Many florists photograph their work in a warehouse or studio corner that was never meant to be seen on camera. A hand painted backdrop turns that corner into a setting with real texture, and because painted canvas absorbs light rather than reflecting it, the light falls softly across the blooms. Prairie Rose Farm and Floral shared in their Google review that their backdrop has made documenting their floral work far easier.
An 8' x 10' backdrop is the size for full-length senior portraits, with enough width for standing poses and a little movement. For headshots and seated poses, a 5' x 8' on a single stand covers the frame and is the lighter piece to carry between your studio and a location.
For color, choose the tone that sits behind your senior: a light neutral keeps a bright, airy feel in a sunlit room, and a deeper tone helps the figure separate from the wall. Every backdrop is painted by hand, so no other studio in town will have one quite like yours.
For families, the size follows the group. An 8' x 10' fits full-length portraits and a small family, and an 8' x 14' gives a wider group room at the sides. Both hang from two stands.
For mini sessions, a neutral that works beyond one season earns its place in the studio all year. Kelli D. chose Limestone for her holiday mini sessions because it was subtle enough to keep using afterward, and another photographer shared that she shoots her children's portraits on Sandstone, both in their Google reviews.
