“Chasing Stone has been a favorite of mine since I first tried them. Not only do they add texture and style to my subject matter, they are easy to take with me wherever I go!”
“I recently got a few flat lay mats from this company and they are GORGEOUS! They are extremely high quality and roll up so easily for travel. My favorite thing about them is how well the texture on them photographs. That’s something I haven’t been able to get from any other flat lay mat that I’ve tried. Genuinely so happy with my purchases and they’ve changed the detail games for my weddings! Quality and service both 10/10!!!”
“Chasing Stone mats have totally changed the game for me in terms of taking professional looking photos for my stationery business. Now, my invitations look more organic and every suite I design blends to perfectly with the mat that I chose. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a backdrop like a wedding stationer, photographer, and beyond!”
“Chasing Stone is my go to for styling mats! I love both the hand painted and the linen/velvet mats. Great quality! Rolls well, forgiving if bent by accident, wipes off. Some hand painted mats crack or are stiff. These are soft, professional and just perfect.”
Hand painted surfaces come in Standard, about 35" x 28", and Petite, about 26" x 20".
Standard holds a wedding invitation suite with room around it, or a wider still life. Petite is the tighter detail: rings, a few stems, a small product. All sizing is approximate.
They are for the same wedding photographers, portrait photographers, florists, and stylists as the fabric surfaces. The difference is the feel: a painted canvas instead of a cloth.
Each surface is inspired by a destination and painted entirely by hand on artist’s grade canvas. Each mat is one of a kind, so expect slight variations in color and texture from the pictured image.
Rollable, hand painted artist’s grade canvas with our iconic hand frayed edges. Always flexible, and always wrinkle-free due to our unique production method.
Always store and transport your mat tightly rolled around the cardboard core provided. Never crease or fold it. Permanent cracking or denting can happen if it is folded.
Flat lay surfaces arrive rolled on a cardboard core, secured with a retaining band and ribbon, and packaged in our signature branded packaging tube. Up to three same-size painted surfaces can share one core and one tube.
Gently spot clean with a damp cloth or sponge. No soap is needed for most water-based stains. Debris and powder come off with a soft-bristled brush or sticky lint roller. Footprints and scuffs respond to a white art gum eraser.
Avoid excessive friction, heavy detergents, or saturating the mat. Light dents can be minimized by ironing the backside on low to medium heat. In the cold, the mat may stiffen; roll it the opposite direction to ease the curl. Do not consume food that has been placed on painted mats as they are not food-safe.
Please allow 3–5 business days to create and process your order. Shipping time is in addition to processing time. Orders placed after 4:00 PM PT begin the next business day.
Business days are Monday through Friday. A hand painted flat lay inside a bundle uses this same processing time. If you order pieces from more than one collection, the longest processing time applies.
Every order is packed in recyclable materials and ships inside a reusable linen bag. If you want each piece packed on its own, email info@chasingstone.com after you order.
The painted-surface linen bag is the travel sleeve for these mats. It is cut for Standard and for Petite.
A bundle is any three hand painted surfaces in one size, chosen at checkout. Orders of up to three same-size painted surfaces ship on a single core.
Because items are made to order, returns are kindly declined. Exchanges are welcomed within 30 days if the piece is unused, undamaged, and returned with the cardboard core, retaining band, and packaging tube. You pay the return shipping. Email info@chasingstone.com to start an exchange.
A rollable hand painted flat lay gives every ring, invitation suite and set of heirloom details the same textured ground, whichever hotel room or venue the morning happens in. The Standard surface, about 35" x 28", holds a full invitation suite with room around it; the Petite, about 26" x 20", is the tighter frame for rings and a few small details.
The painted canvas rolls onto its core and travels in the kit, and up to three same-size surfaces share one core and tube. Avery N. wrote in her Google review that the texture on her mats photographs in a way she had not found with any other flat lay mat she tried.
Stationers usually reach for the Standard size, because an invitation suite with its envelope, details card and ribbon needs room to breathe in the frame. A hand painted surface adds an organic texture under the paper without competing with the lettering.
Jennifer F. described this in her Google review: her invitations look more organic, and each suite she designs blends with the mat she chose.
For bouquets, boutonnieres and loose stems shot from above, a Standard hand painted surface gives the arrangement a ground with real depth, so petals separate from the background instead of sitting on flat paper.
Painted surfaces wipe clean with a damp cloth, which suits the water and pollen that come with floral work. For work involving lots of liquid, the stain resistant fabric flat lays are the other option.
For small products, ceramics and still life, the surface becomes part of the brand's visual language: each mat is painted by hand on artist's grade canvas and is one of a kind, so a brand's images do not look like anyone else's.
Painted mats are not food-safe, so food placed on them should not be eaten.
